Meet the Chef --
Ingeborg Cheatham |
Welcome. I'm Inge (Een-geh), the chef at Gourmet du Jour.
I've been cooking for more years than I want to be able to remember.
From the time I was a little girl in Erlangen, Germany, in the
northern part of Bavaria also known as Frankenland (the land of
the Franks), I watched my parents cook our meals. They were both
very good cooks; my mother, Christine, even cooked professionally
for awhile.
When I was
still in my teens, I graduated with a diploma from the
Haushaltungsschule cooking school in Fürth,
Germany, where I focused on cooking, food safety, and nutrition.
I served on the staff of Elkofen Castle and learned many more
things there, including a deep appreciation of table etiquette. I
furthered these skills in England and then during a short stint in
France, where I went to a branch of Le Cordon Bleu, the famed
Cordon Bleu School of Cooking.

Meanwhile,
my brother, Horst Pfannenmüller, was advancing his own career as
apprentice chef and then owner and chef of the Hotel Rubschen, in the
Glarner Alps of Switzerland. Horst, who has several Michelin Stars,
has taught me much as well, including the Continental art of
presentation.
For many
years, though, I only cooked for family and friends. Still, I was
always passionate about it, always experimenting and honing new
skills.

Then, in
the early 1990s, I became the Private Chef for Cimarron Partners, a
luxury ranch, where I earned glowing reviews. Meanwhile, physicians in
the area who had heard of or tasted my food asked me to prepare their
specialty breakfasts during morning meetings. I started my Private
Chef service at that time, though I was also hired as Lead Chef for a
5-star luxury resort in the Colorado Wilderness.

Now I cook only for my
friends, family, and clients. And I show them how to cook as well --
children and adults. It's immensely gratifying.
