Inge, a native of
Germany, has lived and traveled all over the world and spoken many
different languages, but it is the German language and culture that
she prefers to introduce to her young charges.
In addition to being the
language other than English that she knows best, German is less likely
to be taught in rural Colorado schools than Spanish or even French --
and even where other European languages are taught, those languages
are seldom taught along with information about their culture of
origin. This is an unfortunate omission!
Inge's language
instruction therefore exposes children to a language and a major
European culture -- Germany, home of the earliest scholars,
philosophers, and musicians -- that they might not otherwise
encounter.
